Oom Abe had been bound by arthritis and back pain, could not do simple house chores, with no hope until three Charis Bible College students; Mary, Gladys and Nozuko; knocked on his door one drizzling Thursday morning.

We shared the good news of God’s grace from the word of God, how Jesus has paid for our sins and sicknesses at the cross and that God wants him well. God is a good Father who never puts sicknesses on us to punish us or to teach us something.

We commanded the pain to leave, and he was instantly healed. He could walk, run and bend with no pain. He was crying tears of joy as we left him to set other captives free.

When we saw him a month later, he was working in his garden and still thanking God for his healing.

Glory to God!

Charis Bible College first year program sets a foundation on the word of God – on who we are in Christ and the true nature of God. The second year builds on that foundation with programs aimed to help the students apply and share what they have learnt.

Every Thursday, the second year students participate in a ministry program such as street evangelism, hospital ministry, prison ministry and spiritual guidance ministry at a local school. A foreign mission trip is a prerequisite for second year graduation.

‘When was the last time you were offended? Today? Yesterday? Last week?

He said to His disciples, “Offenses will certainly come, but woe to the one they come through! Luke 17:1

We have so many opportunities to be offended daily.

We can be offended by family, at work, at the grocery store by the person who does not move the trolley out of the way, by a slow cashier, by other drivers on the road, and so on.

Offenses come to all of us and if we don’t deal with them properly it will be difficult to develop healthy, lasting relationships. Offenses are traps that the devil uses to divide us because he fights against unity. The enemy will do everything to take us out of love and peace. His primary instruments are people. We have to deal with offenses in Christlikeness otherwise a single wounding can cause bitterness and poison our souls.

“Turning the other cheek is presenting yourself not from your wounded side” – Greg Mohr, CBC instructor

When offended satan is luring us into the trap of not walking in love i.e. walking outside of God’s jurisdiction and into satan’s jurisdiction of bitterness, anger, revenge and so on. Satan only comes to steal, kill and destroy. It’s not about how we feel but about choosing to walk in love. We all have opportunity to apply this on a daily basis. No one is exempt.

Satan even tried it with Jesus when He was betrayed. Jesus passed the test.

What about you? Would you pass the test?

This is just a taste on one of the materials offered at the Charis Bible College full time program. Would you like to learn more on the subject?

What a better way to get equipped on this and other subjects than studying at Charis Bible College? In the first year (available in correspondence) second and third year (full time program) you will draw from accumulated decades of experience from Andrew Wommack, and many other instructors on this and other subjects.

Have you ever driven the same way from home, say, to work many times and one day you need to go somewhere but you take the same route without thinking? That is called muscle memory. The mind is like a computer. Our thought patterns are programmed over time through our environment, repeated actions, people around us and our experiences.

When we get born again, our spirits are made new but our soul i.e. mind, will and emotions are not. We still have the thought patterns of the old nature.

For example, when someone says, “cancer” an un-renewed mind will think, “death” whereas a renewed mind will think, “by His stripes I was healed”, or “that is a piece of cake for Jesus” or “The same power that was in Jesus is in me and I can heal the sick just like Jesus”, and so on.

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV)

We are defeated or victorious in proportion to the thoughts we think and what we feed our minds on. Our lives are going the way of our most dominant thoughts.

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, (II Corinthians 4:13 NKJV)

Another important truth is that we speak what we truly believe. Paul said that he believed what is written in the word of God. Most of the time we easily believe what the doctor/ bank account/ bills/ test marks say more than what the word of God says. That is the reason we need our minds reprogrammed with spiritual truths so that we can think like God thinks and this will lead to a transformed victorious life.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 NKJV)

As we spend time in the word of God, we reprogramme our minds to think like God thinks.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:2 NLT)

Charis Bible College Heidelberg (WC), South Africa held its annual Open Week from 2 Feb – 6 Feb 2015. Our guest speakers were Daniel Amstutz and Steve Olivier. Daniel is the director of Charis Bible College Colorado’s School of Worship and School of Healing.

Steve is the senior pastor at the Vineyard Church in Knysna.

“I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. (Revelation 2:2-4 NKJV)

We spend so much of our time on “what” we can do for God. The church has been on performance foundation just like Martha.

Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. (John 5:19 NKJV)

Daniel shared that we can only demonstrate what we have already seen in the place of intimacy with the Lord (John 16:14). In these last days God wants to raise up the tabernacle of David i.e. all people – not just a select few – worshipping in His presence. In His presence is power and His presence abides and goes with us.

God has so much more to give us. Fruit is produced out of this place of intimacy. We don’t stay forever in the place of intimacy but what He shares with us in this place, we are to shout at the house tops. We don’t work for God in our power but we learn how to release His presence. The problem is not the harvest but the labourers that have not spent time in that place of intimacy.

We are in a time of perpetual harvest and sowing, and this is a time of rejoicing.

Daniel also shared at the healing school.

Chronic exposure to stress is the number one killer disease today. Our evening news are filled with news of doom and gloom about the economy, politics, safety and security, and so on. But what does the word of God say? Steve shared on how to live fearlessly.

He shared that fear distorts reality and makes us act irrationally. Anything bad that ever happened to each of us was not from God. We tend to explain why God is good to others. God’s love for us is not defined by what we have done, has been done to us or what we have done to others.

The first step in living fearless lives is to understand that God is good and He is good to me.

Steve also shared on how to confront our fears. One example he gave was when David faced Goliath. He ran towards Goliath. Just like David, we need to face our fears head on. We also need to develop a strong confidence in the word of God. The doctor/ banker might be saying it’s over but what does the word of God say? When we believe His word it produces life.

“If going through tribulation, keep going” – Steve Olivier.

Both Daniel and Steve shared must hear messages.
