The God we serve is one of love and love is His true nature. 1 John 4:8, – “He that loveth not knoweth not God; For God is love.”

1 Corinthians 13 describes what love is and that is exactly who God is! God is patient, God is kind, God rejoices in the truth, and more good things! Sadly many people today do not see God as love but as angry and full of judgement but that is not the true nature of God. We hear from people we need to be perfect and keep the commandments and focus on how we need to be “good enough” for God to accept us but that’s not true.

Many people are self-centered and keep looking at their sin thinking that the guilt will make them change instead of what God has done. God has done away with sin and reconciled us to Himself to us through Jesus. (2 Cor. 5:17-18, Col 1:19-20) Now looking at 1 John 4:8 we read that we can’t love if we don’t know God so how do we love? We get to know God but where to start? Let’s read,

Ephesians 3:18-19 “18 That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it];19 [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself].”
Isn’t that awesome! We get to know God by experiencing His love for us. God is not pushing mankind away from but wants to draw near to them if they will draw to Him but many believers don’t know this because they are focused on themselves instead of God’s love for them and the grace they have through Christ. 1 John 4:19 ” we love God because he first loved us”
Something to notice in these scriptures is that by experiencing God’s love we will be able to love!  So stop trying to perform and walk into God’s open arms and let God the Father love you unconditionally! He is for you and never against you and He is a father who loves you, who has given everything that you might know Him and experience His goodness.
